Ο γάμος μπορεί να είναι μια συναρπαστική εμπειρία ζωής είναι να καταλήξει ως δραματική εμπειρία, ιδίως για τις γυναίκες και τα παιδιά. Είναι λοιπόν  σκόπιμο, το ζευγάρι , προτού επιλέξει, να ενημερωθεί για τις διάφορες μορφές συμβίωσης, και τα δικαιώματα και υποχρεώσεις τους εντός αυτών, όπως σε μια απλή συμβίωση , σε ένα σύμφωνο συμβίωσης, ή σε ένα γάμο.  Υπάρχουν πολλές νομικές λεπτομέρειες, από τα κοινά έξοδα και αποκτήματα, έως το επώνυμο των συζύγων, των παιδιών, φορολογικά και συνταξιοδοτικά  θέματα, κληρονομικά  θέματα και ζητήματα που ανακύπτουν κατά τη λύση της έγγαμης και μη συμβίωσης. Όσο πιο ενημερωμένοι είστε σχετικά με τα δικαιώματα και υποχρεώσεις σας, τόσο μεγαλύτερο σεβασμό μπορείτε να δείχνετε προς τον εαυτό σας αλλά και προς τον σύντροφο σας για να ξεπερνάτε τις μεγαλύτερες ή μικρότερες προκλήσεις της κοινής συμβίωσης.
